This specialist Occupational Therapist role is dedicated to supporting women with complex mental health needs, providing an integrated care pathway as an Occupational Therapist from secure settings to open rehabilitation. Through robust multi-disciplinary collaboration, a strong focus on personal recovery, and carefully designed facilities, you’ll help individuals take meaningful steps towards improved mental health and greater independence as an Occupational Therapist.
Key Responsibilities of the Occupational Therapist
- Inform all patients of their right to access and evaluate their treatment plans as an Occupational Therapist, encouraging active involvement.
- Demonstrate effective leadership as an Occupational Therapist while offering advice and guidance to team members.
- Conduct thorough assessments of care needs as an Occupational Therapist, leading to detailed and relevant care plans, and actively encourage patient participation across all aspects of service delivery.
- Use appropriate evaluation techniques as an Occupational Therapist to assess the effectiveness of care packages on a planned basis.
- Develop and maintain effective systems as an Occupational Therapist for assessing, managing, and minimising levels of clinical risk.
- Work as an integrated member of the multi-disciplinary team as an Occupational Therapist to facilitate effective teamwork and deliver excellent patient care.
- Ensure the care programme approach is effectively implemented as an Occupational Therapist, with relevant and up-to-date communication among all those supporting each patient.
- Participate as an Occupational Therapist in planning, providing, and evaluating therapeutic groups and activity programmes suited to the clinical setting.
- Ensure your clinical and professional development needs as an Occupational Therapist are met via the PDP process.
- Take an active role as an Occupational Therapist in developing and implementing audit and evidence-based practice within the clinical setting.
- Maintain professional registration as an Occupational Therapist by meeting COT and HPC standards, and support adherence to these within clinical settings.
- Ensure treatment areas and equipment used for occupational therapy interventions as an Occupational Therapist are safely maintained and remain in good order.
- Work autonomously as an Occupational Therapist with occupational therapy-specific interventions based on clinical reasoning.
- Take clinical lead as an Occupational Therapist in promoting occupation within the ward environment, supporting the team in creating an occupation-focused setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required for the Occupational Therapist
- HCPC Registration (Occupational Therapist)
- BSc (OT) / Dip COT (Occupational Therapist qualifications)
- Two years’ post-graduate mental health work experience as an Occupational Therapist
- Demonstrate and apply a highly skilled level of clinical and professional supervision as an Occupational Therapist, using various techniques and models
- Completed all education required of a Professional Lead Occupational Therapist
